A socket head cap screw features a cylindrical head and a hexagonal recessed drive. This specialised drive requires a hex wrench or Allen key to tighten or loosen the screw. Hex socket cap screws have threads along their length and can either be fully or partially threaded, depending on the application.
Socket head cap screws are a special type of fastener that is typically used in machine parts, die fixturing, and clamping. These screws are ideal for applications in which there is not enough space to maneuver wrenches or sockets.
Used in high stress environments, grade 12.9 fasteners are the highest class of metric cap screws. Where Grade 8 fasteners have a 150,000 psi tensile strength, 12.9 fasteners have a 180,000 psi tensile strength, making them more durable than the grade 5.
It can withstand a greater load. It has six stress-bearing surfaces, which are more able to handle screwing than slotted screws and cross-shaped screws with only two surfaces.
