Weld screws are welded to a metal surface to provide a protruding shaft for items to be fitted over and fastened to with a nut and washer. Projections and/or tabs extending from the head allow for welding to the mating surface without using a hole.
Threading reduces pipe thickness, so threaded fittings are weaker (and more prone to leakage) than full-thickness butt-welded. If you really want strength, do the 37.5° bevel, suggest a full thickness weld, and be done with it.
