Eccentric bolts are used to adjust the fine positioning of control arms and lock it into place. In this way, your vehicles alignment is adjusted and set. After several years and seasons, these bolts may become seized and corroded.
An eccentric bolt is simply a bolt which is offset inside a locating washer. The bolt is placed through the suspension component and is located in the chassis or sub frame by the outside diameter of the washer.
The effect of eccentric cyclic loading on the fatigue life of bolts has been investigated. It was found out that eccentric loading reduced the fatigue life of bolts by an amount proportional to the increase in the local stress amplitude produced by the eccentricity.
