Pan head screws are often used to secure metal components, such as machinery and automotive parts and accessories, such as license plates and headlights. Pan head screws typically feature a Phillips-style slotted head, but other slot types are available as well.
Pan head Phillips screws take their name from the appearance of their head, which looks similar to an upside-down frying pan. Pan head Phillips screws are a common head type of non-countersunk screw head used in machine screws.
One of the main advantages of pan head screws is their ability to spread the load evenly across the work surface. The non-countersunk head design ensures that the screw head sits on top of the surface, to disperse the working load and prevent damage to the material.
One significant disadvantage is their relatively lower strength compared to other screw types. This makes them easier to stripping, rendering them less suitable for heavy-duty applications.
