The Slotted Round Nut is used across a number of applications including electrical engineering. They can be tightened by means of a slotted screwdriver and are intended to be used for locking components where no specific pre-stressing forces are required.
The main difference between castle and slotted nuts is found on the turret end section where the split pin is found. On the castle nut the end section is turned down slightly, enabling the split pin to be wound round and pinned against the turret so that the pin does not protrude. On a slotted nut this is not possible.
What are slotted nuts used for? Slotted nuts are used in applications where vibration or torque might unfasten the assembly. They are a kind of locknut that can be used interchangeably with castle nuts in most applications.
