A self-clinching nut is a threaded fastener with a knurl and a groove. The knurl ensures that the displaced material is distributed evenly into the groove on the nut when it is embedded into the metal sheet, such that an especially secure hold is achieved.

The Self Clinch Nut can be installed into a pre-punched or pre-drilled hole using a press capable of a squeezing action, causing the parent material to flow into the specially designed under head configuration offering a load bearing and torque resistant joint.

Rivet nuts, generally, and especially with hexagonal body, are more resistance to spin-out than clinch nuts. Cost of standard rivet nuts is almost the same as the cost of a standard clinch nut.
